The outbreak of the pandemic is in the complete sense dimished the sheen of all the festivities like Shri Ram Shobhayatra, Ramadan Eid, Marbat, Ganeshotsav .And the corona has now poised to shift the Ravana dahana event to Kadbi chowk from Kasturchand Park ground. Sanatan DharmaYuvak Sabha, Nagpur has been organising grand Ravana Dahan programme at the Kasturchand Park ground on the occasion of Vijaya Dashami for the past 68 years, which has carved a distinct identity in the cultural events of Nagpur city.
It is counted among the largest cultural events of Central India in which around one and a-half-lakh people from Nagpur and surrounding rural parts gather to see. A short play on one of the episodes of Ramayana enchants the audience before the burning of huge effigies of Ravana, Kumbhakarna and Meghnad, and the colourful cracker show, folk dance have always been the special attractions. This year, due to the coronavirus global pandemic, religious and cultural events have been stopped throughout the country to prevent its infection from spreading. This is the reason that the programme of Ravana Dahan at Kasturchand Park ground has been cancelled this year by Sanatan Dharma Yuva Sabha, Nagpur. In order to continue this cultural tradition, this year, the 68th Ravana Dahan will be organised in a symbolic manner in the premises of Sanatan Dharm Yuvak Sabha in Kadbi Chowk, in which the effigy of Ravana, a mere 15 feet, will be burnt in the traditional way. It has been decided to hold the event in the presence of only limited members, strictly following all the rules applicable to COVID19, informed Sanjeev Kapoor, General Secretary, and Sanatan Dharma Yuvak Sabha Nagpur.
