It turned out to be Super Sunday for Lockie Ferguson and Kolkata Knight Riders in the Dream11 Indian Premier League.
Ferguson reposed the faith shown in him by the team management to bowl his side to a sensational win against Sunrisers Hyderabad in the Super Over in his maiden match of the season at the Sheikh Zayed Stadium in Abu Dhabi.
The 29-year-old Ferguson proved the double trouble for Sunrisers Hyderabad, who found them too hot to handle. The New Zealand paceman’s spectacular bowling display, first in the regulation play and then in the Super Over, enabled Kolkata Knight Riders to notch up their fifth win.
The tall and well-built speedster scalped two wickets in quick succession to bring Kolkata Knight Riders back in the game after Sunrisers Hyderabad new opening pair of Kane Williamson and Jonny Bairstow got their side off to a flying start while chasing a target of 164. The duo of Williamson and Bairstow piled up 57 runs in the Powerplay of six overs and laid the solid foundation for a win.
However, Auckland-based Ferguson got rid of Williamson, Priyam Garg and Vijay Shankar and returned with dream figures of 3 for 15 in his four-over spell.
Ferguson got good support from Pat Cummins (1-28), Varun Chakravarthy (1-32) and Shivam Mavi (1-34) as they restricted Sunrisers Hyderabad to 163 for 6 in 20 overs to force the Super Over.
Later in the Super Over, Ferguson continued his extraordinary performance and conceded just two runs and took the wickets of David Warner and Abdul Samad inside three balls.
The required three runs were scored by KKR in four balls. With this tense win, KKR improved their chances of qualifying for the play-offs with ten points from nine games. On the other hand, Sunrisers Hyderabad are lying fifth with just 6 points to their credit.
