At Centre Point School, Amravati Road Bypass, the students are provided a wide array of skills to prepare them for any and every situation – the various challenges that life brings forth. With the pandemic, the entire structure of a school has changed, but this has in no way marred the capacity of the Centre Pointers to progress. Their out of the box thinking has lead to the incorporation of various innovative practices, one of them being the virtual assembly.
On 5 October 2020, the Student Council at Centre Point School, Amravati Road Bypass launched a unique initiative of conducting assembly virtually.Â
The Council members brainstormed for events which could be conducted online, and realised that the students and teachers alike truly missed having the assemblies the way they were held in the physical school. And this lead to the thought of creating a virtual space where the students could gain access to and share news, information about the different house-activities being conducted and more.Â
Since it was not possible to have more than 2000 students and teachers together in a Google Meeting session or any other video-conferencing service; the Student Council has developed a website, named “Virtual Assembly†where they put up each day’s thoughts, news, information about house activities, etc.
The Student Council by coordinating with students and teachers update the website on a regular basis. The website comprises a page for each day where the prefects upload meaningful thoughts and news (international, national, city, sports and school news). These duties are shuffled house-wise between the prefects with each house taking responsibility for one week.
A section has also been dedicated to our School Anthem. On this page, the lyrics of our School Anthem as well as an audio recording of the same are present.
A section wherein the house points have been showcased in a graphical form has also been added. On the basis of the inter-house competitions conducted, the points earned by the different houses are added and recorded here. In this way, all the students can see the standings of their respective houses. All the houses have started this year with a total of 1000 bonus points in their kitty.
A calendar page has also been added for the students to access the previous day’s thoughts and news as well.
A section on special events is also a part of the website. This includes coverage on different events and the importance of different festivals, and the like. Recently we had put up essays written by students on the occasion of Gandhi Jayanti. This page has been added specially to give the students a chance to showcase their creative skills.
It is customary for students and teachers to spend the first 5-10 minutes of the morning visiting the virtual assembly website. It has enabled the school to connect in a better way and remain on the same page.
