It has been just about seven months that Nagpur is living with COVID fear. The black cloud of COVID is still hovering over the head of the citizens of Nagpur but that doesn’t mean that the other diseases have taken a backseat or people are fully safe from the other deadly diseases.
The positive news is that the COVID cases, the COVID deaths, the COVID death rate just like in the whole country are showing a decline in the city as well. But we as citizens have to be aware and cautious that the disease is down but not out. The other deadly diseases are still attacking. One such disease is cancer.
Dr B K Sharma, Joint Director Rashtrasant Tukdoji Regional Cancer Hospital said, “In situations like these we have to be more cautious, careful and always on our feet as now we have double the responsibility and double the work. Now as the COVID cases have come down we can be a bit relievedâ€.
Dr Sharma said that we have to take extra precautions during this time and make sure that the patients get the right medication and treatment as ‘Other deadly diseases have not taken a backseat’.
He said that when a person came to us for treatment we first made sure that the person has gone through the COVID tests, has tested negative, and then we begin the treatment, even if that person is positive then also he/she gets the proper diagnosis and treatment of both the diseases. The irony is that up till now we have seen 12 to 15 cases till now where people were suffering from both the diseases and we have tried our best to cure them.
Dr Sharma also informed that the ‘Awareness Mobile Van’ which was mainly bought to give the citizens all the required medical facilities anywhere at any given time will be back on the city roads soon. He said that we are currently working on making the ‘Awareness Mobile Van’ operational after Diwali.
Another important information that Dr Sharma shared that right now the Breast Cancer Treatment awareness month is underway and the best we can do is make people aware of this disease. As now is the time we have to be more cautious about one’s health and adopt a healthy lifestyle and healthy habits
