Delay in release of funds from the government, has put the work of Dr Babasaheb Ambedkar Convention Centre which is taken as a part of Smart City, on halt. So far 100 crores have been spent on this project that has an estimation of Rs 113 crore. Thus an amount of Rs 13 crore is yet to be released from the government due to which the work has stopped.
This international convention centre for Nagpur also the second capital of the state is being developed under the Smart City project. It is being built as the shape of the Parliament House. As per plan, it will have international library, an art gallery and a research center.
The Convention Center is being built on 7.500 square meter land of NIT on Kamptee Road. The project was incorporated in 2009 under Vidarbha Development Program. Cabinet approval for this was received on 11 September 2014. Economic povisions were made.
A budget of 110.74 crore was approved through a government circular, On March 14, 2011, a grant of 322 crore was approved. The remaining amount of 91.74 crores was handed over to NIT. The Bhumi Pujan was performed on October 1, 2013 by former chief minister Prithviraj Chavan. Later, funds crisis happened and the work progressed in slow pace. Currently finishing and furniture work is remaining.
