From the last seven months the shutdown of train services due to coronavirus outbreak has caused huge loss to the Railways. Now even though the train services have resumed still people coming to stations to see off thier relatives is not allowed and so the sale of plarform tickets is closed causing loss of revenue in crores of rupees to the railways.
The sudden outbreak of coronavirus had thrown normal life out of gear. Now after seven months, life cycle became normal slowly. People started stepping out of thier houses as business and other serves resumed.
The railways also started special trains but with COVID-19 restrictions. If we look into 2019 data of sale of tickets, around, 18.89 platform tickets were sold out of which railways earned revenue of 1,88,99,000. This means that every month 1.50 lakh tickets were sold while railways got revenue of 15 lakh per month.
This year the sale of platform tickets is closed from March 23. From then till date approx 11 lakh tickets would have been sold in these seven months and a revenue of over 1 crore would have been generated.
The sale of platforms tickets or entry of people to see off thier relatives is still closed. The decision in this regard will be made after instructions from headquarters. Meanwhile, the hike and decline in COVID-19 cases continues thus making us to adopt the new normal as part of our lives.
