After a brief period of time, a multi starer movie “Laxmii†was released on OTT platform Disney+ Hotstar on November 9. The movie about a transgender ghost who was killed by some goons over a property dispute… oh wait we have already seen it in 2011 horror-comedy Kanchana.
Laxmii based on a 2011 Tamil original, Kanchana horror comedy film which was written, produced, and directed by Raghava Lawrence.
The enigma of the movie is the direction that lacks any newness. The film lacked spice and was definitely not a Diwali blast, nevertheless, the star cast put up a great show with their performances. Director Raghava Lawrence who made his Bollywood debut with this film fails to recreate the charm which he made back in 2011 with the Tamil hit Muni 2: Kanchana.
The horror-comedy fails to tickle any bones and leave us in wonder when will it end.
Known for stepping into the shoes of every character with perfection and leaving the audience amazed by his versatility Akshay Kumar as Asif/Laxmi, clearly did not win the heart of the audience with his role, Kiara Advani as Rashmi, Sharad Kelkar as original Laxmii and others including Rajesh Sharma, Ayesha Raza Mishra and Manu Rishi Chadha.
The only best thing about the movie was talented Sharad Kelkar who jolted the character of Laxmii the transgender and made his own. The expression and acting was remarkable and not even Akshay was able to create that same charm on screen.
Bollywood should definitely rethink making remake movies and should definitely make original movies.
