Opposing the decision imposed by Energy Minister Nitin Raut on not giving any relief in the lump sum electricity bills generated during the lockdown period for the citizens, Former Guardian Minister Chandrashekhar Bawankule took a press conference on Friday at the press club.
The state’s Energy Minister Nitin Raut had claimed that the state government would give Diwali gifts to the public by giving relief in the electricity bills during the lockdown period. The minister made it clear that the government will not be able to give relief in the bills due to the poor financial condition of the power companies, Meanwhile, MSEDCL started a campaign to recover the outstanding amount of electricity bill from Tuesday itself.
Bawankule informed that earlier the minister had promised a waiver on electricity bill for 5 years to those who consume 0 to 100 units of electricity for all the economically weaker sections of the society, but tables turned as during lockdown, electricity bills of lakhs were generated, despite the meter reading in the months of March, April, May, and June.
The department made a fuss as many bills were sent to the consumers despite announcing the relief.
Even though it was announced that a waiver will be given on the electricity bill of four months ie from March to June to the middle-class section of the society but no such action was implemented as the bills generated are proven to be a nightmare for all the consumers.
To add to the messier, consumers are also receiving warning messages from MSEDCL to pay-off the remaining amount of the electricity bill or else the electric supply would be cut off.
To oppose this decision Former Minister Chandrashekhar Bawankule has announced to stage a state-wide protest on behalf of BJP workers at all locations including Villages and Tehsils of Maharashtra.
The Government of Maharashtra should fulfill the declaration of waiving 5 years electricity bill of consumers using 0-100 units of electricity from economically weaker sections as promised. The electricity bill of 4 months of 0-300 units should be waived. They also warned that BJP will not allow power disconnection.
Consumers are desperately hoping to get a waiver on the hefty bills they have received during the lockdown.
