Despite the fact that Nagpur is a hometown of the State Home minister, the city has a vacant post of joint commissioner of police in the police commissionerate since last 6 months.
Nagpur is the second capital of the state and in last few months many brutal criminal activities occurred in the city. In last one week , nine murders have been registered at Nagpur Police stations. In such situation the need of a strong and complete police commissionerate is very important.
The joint commissioner of police plays a vital role in policing of the city. The JCP has the responsibility of making day-to-day decisions towards maintaining law and order.Â
There is no doubt, that the Commissioner of police Amitesh Kumar in a short duration has established his identity as a dedicated and disciplined officer. However, he has to fulfil many other responsibilities too. Hence, it is essential that there should be joint CP in the city to aid the CP. Yet, the post has not been filled since last 6 months. Currently, additional CP of crime branch Sunil Fulari is handling the charge.
However, this raises the question if the home ministry and directorate general of police are serious about making appointment on the position. If this attitude continues that it may lead to rise in the city’s crime graph.
