Good news farmers of Bhandara district as the South-East Central Railways (SECR) has decided to give its all new Kisan Rail a 10- minute halt at Bhandara Station. The train service would begin from December 2.
Earlier, Bhandara was excluded from its
list of stoppages, but, looking at the sentiment of local leaders and people, SECR has made necessary changes.
The Kisan Rail is an attempt to help farmers transport agricultural produce, especially perishable commodities, at cheaper rates to inter-state markets. The weekly train aims at providing seamless connectivity among farmers, markets and consumers.
It may be noted that Bhandara is not just the ‘rice bowl’ of Maharashtra, it is also making strides in vegetable farming.
The farmers of the district express dissapoitment after it was excluded from the stoppage list. However, Jai Jawan Jai Kisan Sanghatana had threatened a stir.
Responding positively, Railways held discussions with local traders and farmers and finally decided to grant a 10 minute halt to the The refreshed time-table has also been issued.
According to it, after leaving Chhindwara, the train will stop at Sausar for 15 minutes then at Itwari Station in Nagpur for 1 hour, at Bhandara for 10 minutes and Gondia for 10 minutes. As per schedule the rail will stop at Rajnandgaon, Durg, Raipur,
Bilaspur, Chanpa, Raigarh, Zarsugda, Raulkela, Chankradharpur, Tatanagar and finally reach Howrah.
