Hon. CEO of Nagpur Smart & Sustainable Development Corporation Limited (NSSCDCL)inaugurated the Illustrated Urban Biodiversity Map of Nagpur. ICLEI South Asia (ICLEI-SA) has developed the map, as part of the assignment on the development of a People’s Biodiversity Register (PBR) for Nagpur city with support of Nagpur Municipal Corporation and Nagpur Smart City environment division.
The aim of PBR is to create awareness among the people about the condition of plants and animals and their conservation and sustainable utilization. Under the program, recording of the local knowledge with validation, perception and attitude of people about natural resources, plants and animals, the irutilization and conservation is being carried out for Nagpur city.
As part of PBR, ICLEI-SA has developed a detailed inventory of the biodiversity wealth of the city. The Biodiversity Map conveys the same in a very user-friendly manner along with important monuments, public spaces, bird watching hotspots, water bodies, etc. The map depicts the city’s biodiversityto impart the significance of urban biodiversity to the citizens of Nagpur. The map also brings forth the fact that the city is known for Tigers as well as Oranges. The compass has been depicted as an Orange.
Dr. Pranita Umredkar (GM I- Env Div.) presented Nagpur Biodiversity coffee table to Hon. CEO and NSSCDCL Board of Directors, on this occasion. Smt. Neha Jha (CFO), Smt. Bhanupriya Thakur (CS), Mr. Rajesh Dufare (GM- Mobility Div.), Dr. Sheel Ghule (GM-e-Gov Div.),Smt. Amruta Deshkar (Accounts Officer)Mr. Rahul Pandey (Urban Planner), Mr. Kunal Gajbiye, Smt. Arati Wagh and Mr. Anup Lahoti from E-Governance division and Dr. Parag Armal, Dr. Manas Badge from Environment division and Shardul Venegurkar (Sr.Project Officer) from ICLEI-SA were present at this inaugural ceremony.
