Recently an advertisement has been floated by some traders that Silk India exhibition is underway at Chitnavis Centre from November 25, 2020 to November 30, 2020. The exhibition is not being organised under the guidance of Ministry of Textiles, Government of India. Due to the COVID-19 pandemic in the country, Government had banned exhibitions, gatherings and events. Therefore, Department of Textiles is not organising physical exhibition. It is organising a virtual meet of buyers and sellers. However, some people are publishing the advertisement under the name of the Department of Textiles and misleading the people. A meeting in this regard was organised at Chitnavis Centre between the officials of the weavers service centre and Department of Textiles.
Manas Acharya, organiser of the exhibition was directed to stop the said avertisement. It was alleged that some traders are trying to mislead the customers and minting money under the name of Department of Textiles. Hereafter, those who will advertise the name of the Department of Textiles without seeking requisite permission will have to face stringent action, said Dr Madhavi Khode-Chawre, Commissioner of Textiles and Managing Director of Maharashtra State Handlooms Corporation. Those who will visit the exhibition should first ensure that the garments should have silk mark and handloom mark.
