Despite the Corona pandemic, Nagpur is all set to conduct the Biennial Election to the Maharashtra Legislative Council on December 1.
The election is considered an important one as the elected person will be representing the six districts of the Nagpur constituency. A total of 2,06,454 electors have been identified from Nagpur Division Graduate Constituency out of which 1,02,809 total electors are from Nagpur. A total of 322 polling stations is step up this year out of which 162 total polling stations have been prepared in Nagpur.
It is amusing that only 1 lakh graduates have been registered themselves from Nagpur city for the Biennial Election.
Talking to some of the graduates from Nagpur the scenario seems to be different. The lack of awareness among the citizens has lead to less number of voters registered.
The meaning of graduate election is that one has to choose someone who had worked for the betterment of student but it is not the case as the students like us had to migrate to other cities and state to find better opportunities as Nagpur does not offer the same said one voter one condition of anonymity.
“We were not aware that one has to register themselves in participating in the biennial election and because of that we will miss it†Ankita another graduate said.
“We are excited about the election but we are unaware about the names of the candidates who are contesting this year as a part of two-three parties we did not see anyone else campaign†Mohit Madankar one of the graduate said
Sanjiv Baral said that I am excited for the election as it will help in setting a good future for the graduates of the society. More educated people in Assembly will help to lead the state in a better way.
