The state government on Wednesday finalized Non-Conventional Energy Generation policy that envisages all government institutions to switch over to solar power in next five years period. Hospitals, schools, Government offices, educational institutions, Semi Government institutions under the jurisdiction of the State Government must be brought on solar energy as this would results in massive savings.
The policy mandated that respective departments will provide funds for switch to solar energy. Also, cost of solar energy project should be included in the project cost of all the housing schemes of Maha Awas Yojana. Power generation projects from urban solid waste will be implemented by local, civic bodies and same will be funded by the Environment Department.
The objective is to set up a branch in Maharashtra through a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) with the Central Governments NICE for the use and research of various innovative projects and technologies, also Solid Waste Management by targeting power generation.
