As a part of the ‘Upgradation of existing State and Central Government Medical colleges to increase MBBS seats in the country’ a total of 222 seats have been added to MBBS and BDS for the academic year 2020-21.These seats have been diverted to Maharashtra from the central government quota in the admission process. Since the number of medical colleges has increased throughout the country this year, the seats in the central government quota have remained unfilled. Since the central quota seats have been added to the state pool of medical seats, more students will be able to avail of them.
Almost all the medical seats in the colleges run by the government and municipal corporations in the Maharashtra have been filled up after the first and second rounds of counselling. Besides the MBBS course, 40 seats of BDS colleges have been diverted to the state quota. Maharashtra has maximum medical colleges.
