It is really a blow to Mahavitaran Company as the Additional District Consumer Complaints Redressal Forum has issued directions to Mahavitaran to pay Rs.1 lakh as damages to complainant farmer for financial loss to his sugarcane crop as well as Rs.10000 for mental and physical harassment suffered by the person along with the expenses for disposal of the case. The complainant farmer has been identified as Natthu Chaudhari from Bhagebori village at Bhivapur tehsil. The ruling was given by members of the Forum Smita Chandekar and Avinash Prabhune. The forum has given a time frame of one month for the execution of its order. The forum also ordered a probe into the matter to fix responsibility and also recover the damages from the guilty employee and submit a report in this regard within six months.
The point to be noted here is that Natthu Chaudhari had obtained power connection for irrigating his farm. As the power lines pass through his farm, sparks would be emitted from live wire, goading Nattu Chaudhari to file a complaint with Mahavitran for mending the fault on May 17, 2017.However, Mahavitaran didn’t paid heed to it and on December 16, 2018 a big spark emitted from the friction of two wires which led to fire on his farm and damaged many things including sugarcane crop.Subsequently,Natthu Chaudhari informed Mahavitaran and sought for help. But it did not yield the Mahavitaran authorities forcing Natthu Chaudhari to lodge a complaint with District Consumer Complaints Redressal Forum. After inspecting the things the Forum partially admitted the case of Natthu Patil and ordered Mahavitaran to pay damages to him. The Forum in its ruling said that if Mahavitaran authorities had taken proper and timely action, much of the damage could have been avoided.
