Dayashankar Tiwari has been selected as 54th Mayor of Nagpur city today in an online election.
Out of a total of 151 voters, Tiwari won a whopping 107 votes in the election for the post of Mayor defeating every other candidate with a large margin. Ramesh Punekar got 27 votes and Narendra Valde got 10 votes while 5 were not present.
The election for the post of Mayor and Deputy Mayor of Nagpur Municipal Corporation was held online through video conferencing at Dr. Punjabrao Deshmukh Smriti Standing Committee Hall at the Corporation Headquarters on Tuesday, January 5.
Mayor Sandeep Joshi and Deputy Mayor Manisha Kothe have resigned from their posts.
Ward 19 ‘D’ corporator Dayashankar Chandrasekhar Tiwari had submitted his nomination for the post of Mayor from Bharatiya Janata Party. While Ward 23 ‘B’ corporator Manisha Ashish Dhavade has submitted nomination for the post of Deputy Mayor.
