Citizens in East and North Nagpur would have to wait till end of 2021 for using the services of Nagpur Metro Rail as work at two junctions required a little more time for completion. Stating this on Sunday, Dr Brijesh Dixit, Managing Director, Maha Metro Rail Corporation Limited, further said crossing over railway lines is a bit complex task and till then other civil work on the two sectors would be completed. These two sections could change the fortune for Nagpur Metro as right now it is just a source of joy ride. Central Avenue and Kamptee Road has high potential owing to presence of wholesale markets and large working populace respectively and hence travellers on these two sections would be more on regular basis. Dr Dixit was speaking at Metro’s dialogue organised by Unnati Foundation and Students Jagriti.
He said that any public project is conceived by mapping requirements of 100-year in future. So, rapid rail transport system under construction in city would prove immensely beneficial as time flies. The projection Central Avenue started on June 6 2014 and construction work was full of challenge as many multi-storeyed building exists parallel to Metro corridor and at many places there is narrow road. The labourers also worked day and night, through blistering summer heat and braving chill and that too at a height of 25 meters. On the occasion, Krishna Khopde, MLA, East Nagpur, said citizens are eagerly awaiting start of metro service from their area. Every good work encounters numerous problem and kudos to Maha Metro and its team for its standard work. Post starting of Metro service citizens would vividly recall the challenging construction work on Central Avenue. Anil Parikh, Chairperson, Bardhaman Co-operative Bank, welcomed the Metro dialogue initiative. Such exchange of ideas increases the faith of the citizens as it help in reducing the problems. Millions of citizens will get due benefit of metro as it has changed the face of the city. Atul Kotecha, Chairperson, Unnati Foundation, said Maha Metro has always got positive support from the professionals in the commercial sector.
