As expected Nagpur district women’s team dominated the Maharashtra State Cross Country Championship which was held at Haveli near Pune on Sunday.
The Nagpur district women’s team won the overall general championship with maximum 21 points to their credit.
In the women’s 10-km cross country, Nagpur eves stamped their authority in style as six of them finished in the top-10.
Nagpur’s international athlete Prajakta Godbole claimed the bronze medal. Nikita Raut missed the medal by a whisker as she had to be satisfied with the fourth spot.
Nagpur district women’s skipper Prachi Godbole (sixth), Mrunali Saraf (eighth), Pranali Borkar (ninth) and Tejaswini Lambkane (tenth) also did well to finish in the top-10 bracket.
Prajakta Godbole clocked 39 minutes and 36 seconds to clinch the third spot in the women’s 10-km race. Nikita Raut took 40 minutes and 0.2 seconds to secure the fourth spot.
In the men’s 10-km race, Nagpur district finished fourth with 84 points. District captain Ajit Bhende placed at a disappointing 15th spot.
Similarly, in the Under-20 boys 8-km run, Nagpur district missed the podium finish as they had to be satisfied with the fourth position. Nagpur’s medal prospect Shadab Pathan placed tenth with 28 minutes and 56 seconds.
