Continuing his dream run of the season, R Shiva emerged as the champion in the LIC Open Online Chess tournament here on Sunday.
The two-day tourney was organized by the LICI Sports and Recreation Club, Nagpur Division and conducted by the Nagpur District Chess Association.
In-form R Shiva, as expected, remained unbeaten in this tournament also as he won all the eight rounds quite comfortably.
In the eighth and final round, Arena Grand Master Shiva downed veteran Yashwant Shamkuwar to take his points tally to eight.
Chetan Deodhagale had to be satisfied with the runner-up position with 6.5 points to his credit. Chetan dismissed Aastha Turankar on the second board in the final round.
The total prize money of the tourney was Rs 5,000. Fifty seven players participated in the tournament.
The prize distribution function will be held at the NDCA Hall at 6 pm on Monday. All the winners have been asked to reach Dhanwate National College, Congress Nagar, to collect their prizes.
The tournament was conducted under the supervision of FA Umesh Panbude and SNA Sheetal Panbude.
