The 53rd Nagpur District Volleyball Championship got underway at the Anand Nagar Sports Association ground, Sakkardara, here on Thursday.
The four-day tournament is being organized by the Nagpur District Volleyball Association to select the district squad for the forthcoming state championship.
Twenty teams in the men’s category and eight teams in the women’s section will vie for the title.
Maharashtra State Volleyball Association (MSVA) president and executive vice-president of Volleyball Federation of India (VFI) Vijay Dangre, Sakkardara Police Station senior PI Satyavan Mane, Nagpur District Volleyball Association vice-president PS Pant, district secretary Sunil Hande, Divya Dhurde, Raju Dhoble and Prakash Dhole inaugurated the tourney.
Sourabh Rokde, Ameya Dangre, Arvind Gavali, Nilesh Mate, Sneha Rokde, Raju Raut, Diksha Dewadkar, Sneha Rebhe, Savita Pivlatkar, Sagar Sagdeo, Pintu Chilkulwar, Arti Dongre Bhavesh and several members of the NDVA and ANSA were present on the occasion.
Soon after the inauguration, first round matches started. Samarth Vyayam Shala, Youth Club Katol and Nagpur City Police launched their campaign on a winning note.
