In a major step to promote acquisition of knowledge and to help the students and research scholars, Rashtrasant Tukadoji Maharaj Nagpur University has taken a decision to keep its libraries open round the clock. The decision was taken on Friday. The notification issued by the head Dr Kishor Kale states that the reading room will remain open even on holidays.
The reading room at the university libraries in Ramdaspeth a Post-graduate Teaching Campus, earlier were kept open from 8 am to 9 pm. The library, which under Maharashtra Public Universities Act are called ‘Knowledge Resource Centres’, are major source for students to get books. The libraries also provide information about research carried out in the past for doctoral degrees. They can be referred by researchers in the library reading room itself.
The University will allow about 40 per cent of the capacity of the Reading Rooms, in view of directions issued by the Government for controlling spread of Coronavirus. Several students’ organisations had made demand for keeping the reading room open for 24 hours. The demand was raised as many of them are working and pursue higher education simultaneously. This will also help the students coming from rural areas and from weaker financial background.
The Reading Rooms will be available for the students, under new directions, from February 13, informs the notification.
