Nagpur Municipal Corporation (NMC) is handing over 488 buses to the Maharashtra Metro Rail corporation Nagpur for operation and maintenance. NMC will also share Counter Services, Ticketing Services and some other services. The decision is made keeping in focus the financial strain on NMC due to the loss incurred by the NMC Bus services. Balya Borkar, Chairman, Transport Committee, NMC told the media that, “NMC Bus services have around 164cr annual maintenance cost where its revenue is just 60cr.
This loss of 100cr is becoming a debt to the NMC Star bus and therefore we have taken this decision to handover 488 busses to Maha Metro.” According to Borkar, out of the 488 buses, 448 buses are normal buses whereas 40 are electric buses. NMC passed the resolution in the house and it is awaiting approval from the Maha Metro and the State Government.
