Mumbai Commissioner of Police Param Bir Singh has been transferred, Maharashtra Home Minister tweeted. Hemant Nagrale has been appointed New Commissioner of Police of Mumbai City.
Param Bir Singh has been given the responsibility of Home Guards.
Additional charge of DGP of Maharashtra State to Rajnish Seth. Sanjay Pandey will head the Maharashtra Security Corporation, Deshmukh has stated.
Nagrale, a 1987 batch IPS, is senior most police officer after Pandey. Nagrale was waiting for being appointed Additional DGP.
Param Bir Singh was under controversy and being criticised for the manner in which journalist Arnab Goswami was arrested, actress Kangana Ranaut’s office and residence was dismantled. The transfer is considered to be political, following discussion on hot topic explosives found near Mukesh Ambani’s residence, death of driver of the vehicle and needle of suspicion pointing towards police officer Sachin Waze. National Investigating Agency has arrested Waze for interrogation.
The Opposition in Maharashtra Legislature, Bharatiya Janata Party, had started demanding resignation of Home Minister Anil Deshmukh in this recent controversy. Deshmukh’s meeting with Chief Minister Uddhav Thackeray on Wednesday was being keenly watched by the media and politicians.
