Rutuja Talegaonkar, a student of Dr Babasaheb Ambedkar College, Deekshabhoomi while representing RTM Nagpur University secured second place in five events during swimming trials for World University Games on Wednesday.
Jain University Bangalore organised the trials to select the Indian team for China event to be held from August 18 to 29.
Rutuja completed the 200 m freestyle event in 2.23 seconds. In the 400 m freestyle event she clocked 5.11 seconds. In the 1500 m freestyle category, Rutuja achieved second place with a timing of 20.18 seconds. In 200 M IM she clocked 2.41 seconds whereas in 400 m IM she completed the event in 5.51 seconds.
Rutuja clinched the medals in last year’s Youth Khelo India Games and University Khelo India Games. Apart from it she also won the medal in All India Inter-University Swimming Championship. Director of Department of Sports and Physical Education Dr Sharad Suryavanshi has congratulated Rutuja and said they are hopeful that she will be selected in the Indian team.
However, another talented swimmer Rishika Bodele of Taiwade College Koradi could not participate in the selection trials as she was  tested Covid positive , informs her coach Dr Pravin Lamkhede of Rani Indirabai Bhonsale Mahavidyalaya, Kuhi. Â
