The Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) on Friday announced India’s ODI team for the upcoming series against England. Mumbai batsman Suryakumar Yadav has been included in India’s ODI squad while Krunal Pandya and Bhuvneshwar Kumar are two cricketers who have made a comeback in the ODI squad. Pacer Prasidh Krishna has also been named in the team.
Mohammed Siraj, who has done extremely well for Team India in Tests, has also been named in the 17-man squad. The 5-match T20I series between India and England will end on March 20 which will be followed by a three-match ODI series from March 23-28.
Led by Chetan Sharma, the All-India Senior Selection Committee announced an 18-member squad for the upcoming series against England.
India ODI squad for England series: Virat Kohli (Capt), Rohit Sharma (vc), Shikhar Dhawan, Shubman Gill, Shreyas, Suryakumar Yadav, Hardik Pandya, Rishabh Pant (wk), KL Rahul (wk), Y Chahal, Kuldeep Yadav, Krunal Pandya, W Sundar, T Natarajan, Bhuvneshwar Kumar, Md. Siraj, Prasidh Krishna, Shardul Thakur.
Suryakumar Yadav, who stole the limelight with a sensational 31-ball 57 against Eoin Morgan-men in the 4th T20 international played at the Narendra Modi Stadium, has been rewarded by the selectors as he was included in India’s ODI squad as well. Riding on SKY’s brilliant knock, Men in Blue defeated England by 8 runs to level the five-match series 2-2.
After being injured in the Indian Premier League (IPL) 2020, Bhuvneshwar has spearheaded India’s pace attack in the ongoing T20I series against The Three Lions. The right-arm pacer was recalled into India’s ODI squad as well.
All-rounder Krunal Pandya, who has represented the Men in Blue in 18 T20Is, has been his maiden call-up for the 50-over format. The BCCI has also rewarded Krishna and Siraj by naming the two pacers in the ODI squad.
Ravindra Jadeja, Jasprit Bumrah, Mohammed Shami, Manish Pandey, Mayank Agarwal and Sanju Samson are the players missing from the ODI team that was picked for the Australia tour. While Bumrah has taken a break for the white-ball series against England due to his recent wedding, Jadeja and Shami sustained injuries during the Border-Gavaskar Series and are yet to recover.
