On Thursday, Gems and Jewelry Council ( GJC) delegation lead by Chairman Ashish Pethe, Saiyam Mehra, Nitin Khandelwal, Rajesh Rokde and DD Karel met D K Agarwal, DDG, Hallmark, BIS at BIS Headquarters held a meeting informed Rajesh Rokde, Secretary of Nagpur Sarafa Association and Director of GJC. The key concerns of the Industry such as the extension of mandatory Hallmarking date, allowing more stakeholders, UID and many more key issues were discussed in detail during the meeting.
DDG patiently heard the representations and assured that he will arrange for a joint meeting of all the stakeholders. GJC is going to submit a detailed representation to BIS as well as the Ministry of Consumer affairs very soon.
Key points of the meeting were :
1. All jewellers across India should get Hallmarking licence compulsory within June 1, 2021. No Sale of gold jewellery without Hallmarking and without license.
2. At present UID scheme kept pending, it will be made mandatory later.
3. Penalty clause made very high 100000/- upto 500000/- depends on the case with imprisonment which will be harassment to jewellers, it should be represented by all associations across India .
The delegation on Wednesday i.e. also met Minister for MSME Nitin Gadkari. They discussed that many Government schemes for MSME which can be availed by the jewellers. It was decided that GJC will soon arrange Web Conference with the Gadkari to understand and promote various MSME schemes offered by the Government.
