Again the online frauds are increasing in city as recently a woman was allegedly duped of 4.43 lakh while ordering food online. As per information, she fell prey to online fraudsters who had posted and advertisement of a ‘thali’ (meal) offer on Facebook. As per the details, victim saw an advertisement of ‘thali offer’ on Facebook. She dialled the mobile phone number mentioned in the said advertisement.
The person who received the call asked her to make online payment of Rs 10/- after downloading a mobile phone application by clicking on the link he would send to her. When she downloaded the app and made the payment, she was surprised to receive a message that Rs 50,000/- had been siphoned off from her bank account. When she called the accused again, he asked her to share OTP received later on to correct the things. Subsequently she shared the OTP and lost total Rs 4,43,999/- from her bank account. Based on her complaint, Gittikhadan Police registered a case under Sections 419, 420 of the Indian Penal Code and Section 66 (d) of the Information Technology Act against the unidentified online trickster.
