Six members of a gang involved in circulation of counterfeit currenÑу was nabbed by Ganeshpeth police and booty wortg Rs 8.24 lakh was seized from them on Friday.
As per the details available, the gang was active from a long time and a lot of information can be obtained from them with the arrest.
The accused are identified as Javed Syed Hussain Syed (27), Sheikh Sameer Sheikh Salim (27), Mirza Sameer Baig Sarfaraz Baig (30) Nilesh Shalikaram Moharia (31), Abdil Adil Abdool Wahab (25) and Abdul Tausif Abdul Kalim (21).
During interrogation the police had received information about the arrival of two youths near Tilak Putla in Mahal. Following this, the police layed a trap and nabbed Javed Syed and Sameer and recovered 102 currency notes of 100 from them.
After examining notes, it came to light that all notes were of the same number. Police prima facie found that the notes were counterfeit and arrested the youths with the currency, activa (two-wheeler) and mobile.
After this, the police started searching for other accomplices of the two youths. By laying several traps in Amravati, the police arrested the whole gang. It came to fore that the main accused in the case are Adil and Tausif, both residents of Amravati. The accused used to make fake currency using collar printer.
Javed Syed is a liquor smuggler living in Tajabagh. He is a resident of Chandrapur. Earlier, he used to smuggle liquor from Nagpur to Chandrapur. Sheikh Sameer also lives in Tajabagh and works as an auto-dealer and decorator. When Sameer came in contact with Javed, he also started smuggling liquor. Abdul Adil and Abdul Tausif also smuggle liquor and work as auto dealer. All four of them came in contact with each other and started the printing counterfeit currency.
As per the accused, coun terfeit currency worth 50,000 was produced by them so far. Earlier they used to circulate the currency in Amravati. However, due to the alertness of a pan seller, they were exposed. After this, the accused moved to Nagpur.
This action was carried out under the guidance of DCP Lohit Matani, PI Bharat Kshirsagar, Pawar, API Mulani, constable Pankar Borate, Chimote, Pankaj Manekar, Prashant Gajbhiye, Ankus Chaudhary, Yogesh, Praveen, Rajan Yadav and Sajid Khan.
