The scarcity of vaccines against the worst man-manipulated virus has left Maharashtra State to adopt new measures to vaccinate certain age groups with the life-saving vaccine.
In order to administrate 2nd dose of vaccine to 45 year and above age group Maharashtra has decided to temporarily hold vaccination drive for 18-44 age group.
Even though Government of India informs that so far provided more than 18 crore vaccine doses (18,00,03,160) to States/UTs Free of Cost. Of this, the total consumption including wastages is 17,09,71,429 doses (as per data available at 8 am today).
More than 90 lakh COVID Vaccine doses (90,31,691) are still available with the States/UTs to be administered. Furthermore, more than 7 lakh (7,29,610) vaccine doses will be received in addition by the States/UTs within the next 3 days. However Maharashtra has a shortage of vaccine.
Maharashtra Health Minister Rajesh Tope informed that “There is a dearth of vaccines. We’re considering holding off vaccination drive temporarily for the 18-44 age group. 2.75 lakh doses left for this group, which will be used for 45 yrs & above now. Administering 2nd dose is a priorityâ€.
Speaking on the extension of lockdown in the state he informed that the “Final call on extension of restrictions in Maharashtra will be taken in Cabinet meet tomorrow”.
As per the official data Maharashtra has administrated above 17 crore vaccine till date.

On May 10 Maharashtra recovery cases surpassed daily case as 61,607 recoveries were recorded, 37,236 new cases and 549 deaths were registered in 24 hours.
The Active Cases of the state dropped to 5,90,818, the total Cases till date reached 51,38,973 mark Total Recoveries till date stands at 44,69,425, while Total Deaths till date is 76,398. Maharashtra has Total tests till date 2,96,31,127, Recovery Rate of state stands at 86.97% while the Case Fatality Rate stands at 1.49%.
