A move to know the number of tigers, leopards, bears and other wild animals in the country, the Indian wildlife organization had commenced conducting animal census on the day of Buddha Poornima. Considering the Covid-19 pandemic, there will be no animal census on May 26.
During the census, machans are built near water bodies in forests. Using these machans state forest department staff keep close watch on animals in forests. The number related to a particular animal is also obtained on the basis of pug marks. Even during the last year, animal census was not conducted in the forests .from many years, on full moon night of Buddha Poornima, wildlife lovers and voluntary members do the counting of animals.
