With the decreasing COVID cases in the city, the administration is seeing a gradual rise in another life-threatening fungal infection ‘Mucormycosis’ among the COVID recovered patients.
Maharashtra-based Genetic Life Sciences on Thursday began manufacturing Amphotericin B Emulsion injections, used for treating Mucormycosis or black fungus. The distribution of the injections will begin from Monday.
With 284 cases, Nagpur has reported the highest number of cases in the state, health officials said, adding seven deaths have been reported from the district.
With highest number of cases Maharashtra government has recognized Nagpur as the worst affected city among Mumbai city, Pune, Aurangabad, Nanded, Beed and Latur.
Even though the authorities are vigilant and taking necessary precautions while treating COVID patients and keeping them save from the post-Covid complications as many as 2,245 cases of Mucormycosis have been detected in Maharashtra so far, while 120 people have lost their lives due to the fungal infection.
Acting swiftly on the rising scarcity of the life-saving drug Genetic Life Sciences which was given permission to produce the injection for the treat black fungus infection will start the distribution of ‘Amphotericin B’ Emulsion injections from Monday office of Nitin Gadkari informed. The price of these life-saving injections has been cut down and will be available at Rs 1200. Earlier the price of one injection was Rs 7000.
