It is mandatory to follow the parking rules and regulations of Airport Authority of India (AAI) in all the airports in the country. Recently after an RTI query, it has come to the light that the parking charges for four and two-wheelers are two to three times costly as compared to other airports in the country at Dr.Babasaheb Ambedkar International Airport in Nagpur. Nagpur airport authority is violating the rules and regulations of AAI as far as parking is concerned. The vehicle owners are consistently demanding to regulate the parking rate at the airport. According to the RTI, it is revealed that parking charges are very high at Nagpur airport.
As per information, Mihan India Limited (MIL) of Maharashtra Airport Development Company (MADC) has been handling Nagpur Airport. The company has allotted parking space to contractor for five years on a contract basis after floating tender. Till March 2021, the airport has earned a revenue of 11.21 crore as parking charges. And the Nagpur Airport falls in’C’ category, the exorbitant parking charges are not justified. The airport authorities should immediately stop the loot in the name of parking charges.
The parking charge for bus and trucks is only Rs.30 for 30 minutes at Port Blair Airport, Rs.30 for SUV, mini bus, Rs.10 for two-wheeler, Rs.70 for more than 30 minutes for bus and truck, Rs.60 for mini bus.Rs.55 for car and Rs.15 for two-wheeler. At Chennai, Kolkata, Pune and Vadodara airports, Rs.50 are being charged for a coach, bus, truck parking for 30 minutes and Rs.40 for other vehicles and Rs.20 for two wheelers. As Nagpur Airport falls under ‘C’ category the authorities are expected to charge Rs.30 for a coach, bus and truck for 30 minutes.Rs.20 for car and Rs.10 for two-wheeler parking. Besides, they charge around Rs.120 from car owners if he or she spends more than five minutes at airport terminal.
