Nagpur seems to be under the spell of Black fungus as the city registered 35 new cases of Mucormycosis on June 2 taking the total tally of cases in the city to 1157 according to the official data received from the District information office.
Nagpur is slowly coming out of the spell of COVID as daily cases in Nagpur district are recording fewer cases. However, even with fewer cases, the threat is still not over as post-COVID infection ‘Black Fungus’ is proving to be fatal for Covid suffering patients.
According to the official data, Nagpur registered 35 new cases of patients suffering from Mucormycosis in different hospitals in the city in the last 24 hours taking the cumulative tally to 1,157. A major jump is seen in new cases as of June 1 the daily cases recorded were 25. While 3 patients lost their life due to black fungus taking the cumulative death counts of the city to 105 the highest in Nagpur circle.
863 patients had to be taken for surgery in Nagpur because of the life-threatening fungal infection meanwhile 19 person defeated both the deadly virus and black fungus and were discharged taking the recovered tally to 550 in city.
In the Vidarbha region, Nagpur has the highest number of Black fungus cases registered along with the highest number of deaths. Overall, 112 patients have succumbed to the infection in the six districts of the Vidarbha region of which 105 alone died in Nagpur. With 43 new cases in the Vidarbha region, the tally of total cases in the region reaches 1368 cases.
