Under the Chulmukt and Dhurmukt Shala’ (furnace and smoke free schools) campaign, schools in the state would be provided with LPG cylinders. For this purpose, the education directorate had asked for details of schools from the district education department. The details has been forwarded to the government and fund required for the implementation of this scheme is awaited.
In order to cook Midday Meal in the Zilla Parishad, municipality and granted schools, government will be providing LPG cylinders to the schools. As per available details, schools will get grant for two LPG cylinders and a stove.
The Zilla Parishad had sought details of schools in district which do not have gas connections.
It came to light that 1,720 schools in rural areas and 270 schools in urban area of the district do not have gas connections.
The Midday Meal is provided to students from class 1st to class 8th. Self-help groups provide Midday Meal in some schools of the district, while in some areas of city and nagar parishad, midday meal is supplied by ‘centre kitchens’.
The government provides student wise grant to schools in two parts. The first part is allotted to class 1st to 5th and the second part to class 6th to 8th. The grant received from the government is used for purchasing vegetables, grains, fuel and so on.
It Some schools still use wood as fuel and the government has decided to provide such schools with gas connections.
