Giving some relief to transgender Divisional commissioner Prajakta Lavangare Verma has instructed the officials to protect the rights of transgenders.
Verma in a review meeting of the social welfare department at the divisional commissioner’s office said that a welfare board has been established for the welfare and to protect the rights of transgenders. Under this, there are many schemes including financial help for self-employment, which should be implemented.
She said that the education of transgenders should be emphasised through the welfare board. School, college cannot deny them in giving them admission in their school. Verma also gave instructions to the social welfare department to create public awareness and give identity cards.
In the meeting Verma also asked to rename villages, settlements and roads of the division, whose names are caste based till August 15. She has also directed officials to collect the information of all caste based villages and settlements in the district and to send the names of the urban areas to the urban development department and the names of the rural to the rural development department.
