NSO celebrates 15th Statistics Day

Under the auspicious of the National Statistical Office (Field Operations Division), Regional Office, Nagpur, the 15^th “Statistics Day” was celebrated online on 29^th June 2021 through Video Conferencing due to the Covid-19 pandemic. This Statistics Day Programme was organized by the Ministry of Statistics and Programme Implementation, New Delhi.

The Chief Guest of the Programme was Shri Rao Indrajit Singh, Honorable Minister of State (Independent Charge) of Ministry of Statistics and Program Implementation, Government of India. Ms. Renata Lok-Dessallien, UN Resident Coordinator in India, Mr. Pietro Gennari, Chief Statistician, Food and Agriculture Organization of the United Nations, Dr. G. P. Samanta, Chief Statistician of India-Cum-Secretary, Ministry of Statistics and Program Implementation, Prof. Bimal Kumar Roy, Chairman, National Statistical Commission, Dr. Shailja Sharma, Director General, Ministry of Statistics and Program Implementation, Dr. Sangamitra Bandyopadhyay, Director, Indian Statistical Institute etc. were present to celebrate this event.

This year’s theme of Statistics Day is “Sustainable Development Goal-2 (End hunger, achieve food security and improved nutrition and promote sustainable agriculture)”

    2) The Statistics Day Programme is organized online through Video Conferencing on 29^th June 2021. In this programme Shri R.C. Gautam, Deputy Director General, NSO (FOD), Zonal Office, Nagpur and Shri Srinivas Uppala, Director, NSO (FOD), Zonal Office, Nagpur participated in the event virtually. 

3) During this Statistics Day celebration, all the eminent speaker have spoken about the role and importance of official statistics in socio-economic planning and policy formulation for development of the country. A presentation on this year theme of Statistics Day i.e. “Sustainable Development Goal-2 (End hunger, achieve food security and improved nutrition and promote sustainable agriculture)” was also made. The day is celebrated for creating awareness, especially among the younger generation to achieve the current sustainable development goal. Awards also provided for winners were announced on the occasion.
