Learning from the past the administration surely don’t want to repeat its mistake this time. As the third wave of coronavirus is being predicted by several health experts, the administration and health department is focusing of availability of oxygen cylinders and beds in case of emergency. Under this plan oxygen centres will be set up at 30 places in the city. Oxygen will be made available to people at these centres whenever required, informed guardian minister Nitin Raut.
Raut was speaking during a review meeting held at the divisional commissioner’s office about coronavirus infection. He said that the patients will be helped through oxygen centres to get admitted to nearest hospital. 100 oxygen concentrators will be given to these centres. If required, 100 more concentrators will be purchased from District Development Fund.
The guardian minister also directed the authorities to increase the speed of vaccination drive. In view of the possibility of third wave, instructions were also given to arrange oxygen, beds and keep the hospitals of the city areas ready. While directing to give vaccine to more than 50,000 citizens every day, he said that there are about 13 lakh citizens in the age group of 18 to 44 years.
In rural also, the first dose has been given to 40 percent of the people above the age of 18 years. 9 percent have got both the doses. Oxygen production facility has started in medical college and rural hospital. 1375 new oxygen cylinders will be purchased.
The municipal commissioner Radhakrishnan B who was also present during the meeting said that 600 more beds would be made available on Amravati Road. With this, the total number of beds will be 1 800. There will be no problem in the treat ment of Covid infected patients.
Meanwhile regarding the delta plus variant threat, the guardian minister said that suspected patients of Delta variant of Covid have been found in the district. These include 8 patients from Umred and 4 from Nagpur. Samples of these patients have been sent to NIV, Pune for testing. Raut asked to make efforts towards getting the report soon.
