Furious over the rising price of fuels, LGP gas Mahila Congress Nagpur district under the leadership of Sandhya Sawalakhe, Maharashtra State President of Mahila Congress protest outside Collector Office on Friday.
Women members of Congress from rural areas and city gathered in huge number at the collector’s office. To express their anger they even started cooking using Chulahs. A funeral procession of gas cylinders was also taken as it was out of reach of the homemakers.
While addressing media on the occasion, Sawalakhe said, “In 2012, when the price of the fuel and cooking gas was much less than what it is today, the opposition then which is now in power in the centre use to give big lecture regarding the price of cooking gas and fuelâ€.
What happened to them now? Congress was and is the party which cares for everyone, then and now also,†She said.
Dr Richa Jain, General Secretary of Maharashtra Mahila Congress and In-charge for Nagpur added that the budget of every homemaker has spoiled, due to the exorbitant rate hike of petrol, diesel, cooking oil, gas, and all essential commodities.
“It is difficult to run the family as the prices are escalating day by day and the Government is sleeping ideal,†Dr Jain said.
Takshashela Waghdhare, President of Rural Mahila Congress, and Pradhnya Badwaik, President of City Mahila Congress added that the price hike of fuel and essential commodities must be taken back or the Union Government must step down. A deputation was submitted to District Collector for Prime Minister to roll back the price hike. Prominently present were Sunita Jichkar, Varsha Gurjar, Shamla Waghdhare, Manisha Lohakare, Sangeeta Uprikar, Sangeeta Chavhan, Girijabai Awade, Snehal Dahikar, Asha Singade, Maya Ghorpade, Rajkumari Phopre, Ratnamala Maske, Kunda Harde, Archana Sedam, Tabasum Khan, Chaya Sukhdeve, Vaishali Manwatkar, Suraiya Banu, Chaya Nimsarkar, Rekha Bargat, Usha Kumre and other women workers from city and rural in large numbers.
