Eight different murals erected in honor of people who have contributed in various fields such as social, political, literary and medical in Nagpur city were inaugurated on Sunday (11th) at the hands of Leader of Opposition in the State Assembly Devendra Fadnavis. On this occasion, Mayor Dayashankar Tiwari, MP Vikas Mahatme, MLA Vikas Thackeray, MLA Praveen Datke, former MP Ajay Sancheti, Senior Councilor Sunil Agarwal, Convening Councilor Adv. Nishant Gandhi, Chairman of Vardhman Co-operative Bank Ltd. Anil Parkh, Vice Chairman Naresh Patni, Anil Agarwal, Director, Sandeep Developers Pvt. Ltd., Atul Kotecha, President, Unnati Foundation, Yugal Raylu, Premlata Tiwari, Dinesh Parekh, Bachchu Pandey, Syed Mumtaz were present.
On behalf of Nagpur Municipal Corporation and Vardhman Co-operative Bank Ltd. And in collaboration with Sandeep Developers Pvt. Ltd. on the road between Petrol Pump Chowk to GPO Chowk in the Civil Lines area, Murals of Nagpur’s famous AB Bardhan, Kavi Grace, M.G. Vaidya, Sumatitai Suklikar, Lok Nayak Bapuji Ane, Vidarbhaveer Jambuwantrao Dhote, Padamshri Dr. BS Choubey and Padma Bhushan Maulana Abdul Karim Parekh have been erected. The mural was created by Deepak Bhagat while the concept of ‘Heroes of Nagpur’ is by corporator Nishant Gandhi. Gajanan Nimdev, Shripad Aparajit and Gajanan Janbhor were instrumental in this work.
This is a highly commendable initiative to enable the new generation of Nagpurites to recognize and understand the characters who have made significant contributions to the history of the city in a very innovative way as they tour the city. This will not only make our new generation aware of the history of our city but also inspire them, said Devendra Fadnavis, Leader of Opposition in the State Assembly.
The city of Nagpur benefited from many veterans who contributed in various fields. Corporator Nishant Gandhi had come up with the idea of ​​erecting a mural along the city road to preserve the memory of these veterans and pass it on to the next generation. In this regard, he took the necessary steps to pave the way for the creation of this mural. Mayor Dayashankar Tiwari said that he is happy that the legacy of his work is being preserved with the memory of the veterans of the city in a beautiful way today along the green lanes of the city’s civil lines.
On the way from Bole Petrol Pump Chowk to GPO Chowk, there is a mural of Ardhendu Bhushan Bardhan, aka AB Bardhan, a leader of the Communist Party of India, who initially made a significant contribution to the formation of the state of Maharashtra along with the freedom movement. Later, a mural of Manik Sitaram Godghate alias Kavi Grace, who left his mark in the field of Marathi poetry and is known as the leading poet of the second generation of post-Mardhekar novices, has been erected. The mural of Sumatitai Suklikar, who has been working for social work all her life and struggling for the underprivileged in politics and social activism, has been created. From Madhav Govind Upakhya Baburao Vaidya i.e. M.G., speaking on behalf of Rashtriya Swayamsevak Sangh, who has left his mark in social work by playing various roles such as journalist, MLA, teacher, farmer. A mural of Vaidya has been erected.
On the left side of the road leading to Bole Petrol Pump Chowk from GPO Chowk, a mural of Vidarbha hero Jambuwantrao Dhote, popularly known as ‘Lion of Vidarbha’ and raising the slogan of independent Vidarbha till the end, has been erected. A mural has been erected of Loknaya Bapuji Ane, an important leader of Vidarbha who contributed to the Indian freedom struggle and a supporter of Vidarbha state. A mural has been erected on this road by Padma Shri Dr. BS Choubey, who is known as a ‘Doctor of the Poor’ who treated the poor and needy at reasonable rates after retirement without providing private services while working as a doctor in a government hospital. A mural of Padma Bhushan Maulana Abdul Karim Parekh, a social activist who conveys the message that ‘humanity is the true religion’, has been unveiled in a simple language so that all those who are keen readers of the Quran know the importance of the Quran. This mural will be a source of inspiration for the people of Nagpur, informing them of the characters who have contributed to the important work in the history of the city.
