Nagpur Police has issued a notification under Section 7 (1) (b) of the Immoral Traffic (Prevention) Act, 1956 to notify public places within distance of two hundred meters of which prostitution cannot be carried by any person in any premises
“The Commissioner of Police is empowered under Section 7 (1) (b) of the Immoral Traffic (Prevention) Act, 1956, to notify public places within a distance of two hundred meters of which prostitution cannot be carried by any person in any premises” reads the notification.
The notification further adds that apart from the public places as notified by the Commissioner of Police, prostitution cannot be carried out within a distance of two hundred meters of any place of public religious worship, educational institution, hostel, hospital or any nursing home.
It has been brought to my notice that several offences have been registered, during preceding 5 years, under the provisions of Immoral Traffic (Prevention) Act, 1956 for carrying out prostitution in or in the vicinity of the following public places:

Durga Devi Mandir, Cement Road, Ganga Jamuna, Lakadganj Prabhag No. 22 Nagpur.
Sharda Devi Mandir, Cement Road, Ganga Jamuna, Lakadganj, Prabhag No. 22 Nagpur
Radha Swami Satsang, Itwari, NikalasMandir Road, Lakadganj, Nagpur.
NMC Chinteshwar Hindi Primary School, JuniMangalwari, Ghas Bazar Road, Prabhag No. 22, Lakadganj
Hindustan High School, Vyankoba Mule Road, JuniMangalwari, Lakadganj, Nagpur
As it has been brought to the notice, that there is a high foot fall of public in places viz. Ganga Jamuna Police Chowky (PS Lakadganj) and office of Maharashtra State Electricity Distribution Company Limited (MSEDCL), Chinteshwar Branch, JuniMangalwari, Lakadganj.
Thus, it is CP Amitesh Kumar has now imposed section 7(1)(b) of Immoral Traffic (Prevention) Act, 1956, in these establishments.
“The premises within a distance of 200 meters from the above public places shall not be used for the purpose of prostitution and hereby it is declared that the violation of this notification, will attract liability and prosecution of such violator, under Section 7(1)(b), section 7(1-A), section 7 (2) (a), 2(b), and 2(c) of Immoral Traffic (Prevention) Act,1956 and under other relevant sections of law, as the case may be, depending upon the nature of violation” reads the notification.
The order will be enforced from today for an initial period of 60 days, on a temporary basis.
Nagpur police has requested citizens to submit there views, objections in writing to the office of Commissioner of Police, Opposite Mangalwari N.M.C. Zone office, Sadar, Nagpur or on e-mail at ep.nagpur@mahapolice.gov.in within 30 days of publication of the notification.
