Repeated appeals by Reserve Bank of India and other Nationalised and Cooperative banks, a survey has made startling revelation. Only 21 percent of the credit or debit card users remember their password or PIN number.
The report is more serious as majority of the on-line money transaction users, including cards, are educated and from urban areas. Increasing cyber crime, may be a result of this lack of attention by the card users.
Almost all the television channels have been airing appeal by RBI, about care to be taken in on-line money transactions.
Police personnel, handling cyber fraud cases, have clearly stated that in most of the frauds committed, the fault lies with the victim itself. Either PIN number or password is disclosed, saved in mobile phone, written on piece of paper in the wallet or disclosed to person impersonating as bank officer, or lured by hefty and attractive gifts etc.
