Tourism Department has organised various programmes to celebrate the World Tourism Day on September 27. The theme for this year is “Tourism for Inclusive Growthâ€
The department in cooperation with Vidarbha Heritage Society, Nagpur, has organised Heritage Walk on the day from 7.30 am to 9.30 am from Tilak statue, Mahal. Paricipants will pass through Vitthal Rukhmai Mandir (Ghui) in Ram Mandir Lane, Gandhi Gate, Rukhmini Mandir Complex, Senior Bhonsla Palace, Bakabai wada (D D Nagar Vidyalaya), Kotwali Police Station, Mahal, Budhwar Bazaar, Kalyaneshwar Mandir, Gond Killa, Chitnavis Wada and back to Tilak statue, where information about history of Nagpur would be given to people. Later, Heritage Walk will begin from Vitthal Rukhmai Mandir and conclude at Chitnavis Wada. Tours & Travels agents will participate in the walk.
Prajakta Lavangare Verma, Divisional Commissioner, will be the chief guest while3 Vimla R, District Collector, will be the guest of honour. Pradyumna Sahastrabhojane, President of Vidarbha Heritage Society, will be prominently present.
This was stated by Prashant Sawai, Deputy Director, Tourism, while addressing a press conference here on Friday. He pointed out that a videos competition would be held at Tuli College of Hotel Management on tourists places and then guests would distribute prizes to students. Uddhav Thackeray, the Chief Minister, Ajit Pawar, Deputy Chief Minister, and others will inaugurate online posters at fort wall, Zero Mile at 12.30 pm. The department in cooperation with Government Institute of Hotel Management and Catering Technology will organise a webinar on the theme in which Sawai will express his views, followed by quiz contest. Moreover, a bi-cycle rally, plantation programmes, felicitations to farmers and construction of weir through shramdaan have been organised at Chandrapur, Gondia and Wardha respectively, he added.
To a question about celebration of the Day at different resorts/destinations, where tourists actually visit, Sawai replied that after bifurcation Maharashtra Tourism Development Corporation (MTDC) looked after it. However, no officer of MTDC was present in the press conference, despite its office is situated in the same premises in Civil Lines.
