Balasaheb Thackeray Gorewada International Zoo received 10 black bucks, 10 albino black bucks, 4 sambars and 20 barking deer in the wee hours of Thursday from National Zoological Park, New Delhi, in exchange of 2 tigresses and2 sloth-bears given to it a couple of days ago.
The Central Zoo Authority (CZA), Delhi, had given sanctions for exchanging the wild animals on September 16. Accordingly, the Gorewada officials shifted 2 tigresses and 2 sloth bears to National Zoological Park. Now in exchange, the park has shifted the above said wild animals to Gorewada zoo. These black bucks, sambar and barking deer are now kept in the quarantine for herbivores. After completion of the period, they would be shifted to a 40-hectare safari area for herbivores in Gorewada, informed P B Panchbhai, Divisional Manager, Gorewada zoo project.
