Members of Aam Admi Party (AAP) staged demonstrations in front of office of Energy Minister Dr Nitin Raut, protesting severing of power connection, during Covid 19 pandemic.
The party workers led by Vidarbha unit Covenor Devendra Wankhede and State unit Treasurer Jagjit Singh alleged that the people were suffering financial crises as they lost jobs and business were closed during the lockdown. Many of them had no earning, forget about paying electricity bills. The State Government, instead of granting any relief to the affected people increased the power tariff by 20 percent from April 2020. Moreover, in case of delay in payment, hefty fine is imposed by the electricity company.
The Chief Minister Uddhav Thackeray, during election campaign had assured that, if elected to power, domestic consumers will get 30 percent cheaper electricity upto 300 units.
Dr Raut had also stated that the consumers may get Diwali gift. The Deputy Chief Minister had assured during budget session that electric supply will not be cut.
The Government has failed to fulfil all the assurance and is losing faith of the people.
The workers raised slogans against the Chief Minister and Energy Minister. They also quoted example of Delhi Government, which supplies electricity at very cheaper rate.
State Unit Joint Secretary Ashok Mishra, National Council member Amrish Savarkar, Nagpur Convenor Kavita Singhal, Shankar Ingole, Bhushan Dhakulkar and others participated in the agitation.
