Mumbai Police Cyber Cell on Wednesday arrested a man from Hyderabad for giving online rape threats to Indian cricketer Virat Kohli’s daughter after team India’s loss against Pakistan in T20 World Cup 2021.
The accused has been identified as Ramnagesh Alibathini. 23-year-old Ramnagesh is a software engineer and worked for a food delivery app earlier.
According to information now-deleted Twitter account @Criccrazyygirl had issued rape threats to Virat and Anushka Sharma’s nine-month-old daughter after skipper Virat Kohli extended his support to Mohammed Shami who was subjected to online abuse after India’s T20 WC loss against Pakistan and called out religious discrimination.
Earlier, Delhi Commission for Women (DCW) had taken suo-motu cognizance on reports of online rape threats to Virat Kohli’s daughter, Vamika Kohli.
Kohli had said, “To me, attacking someone over religion is the most, I would say, the pathetic thing that one can do. Everyone has the right to express their opinion and what they feel about a particular situation. I have never ever thought of discriminating against anyone over their religion and that is a very sacred and personal thing to every human being.”
