Gorewada Zoo Project under Forest Development Corporation of Maharashtra (FDCM) celebrated the Bird Week at bioversity park/nature trail daily in which students, youths, bird watchers, nature lovers and morning walkers participated. The concluding function held recently to create awareness among the public about importance of birds in eco-system and protection of endangered birds and their habitats.
Gorewada Reserve Forest is home to around 250 species of birds that include resident as well as winter migratory birds. The specialists guided the participants on different species of birds, migration routes and other aspects.
As winter migrants have arrived at Gorewada lake, the enthusiastic bird watchers were also lucky to see the migratory species like Gadwall, Brahminy Duck and others.
Kalpana Chinchkhede, Assistant Manager, FDCM, co-ordinated the event under the guidance of Pramod Panchbhai, Divisional Commissioner, Gorewada Project, and H V Madbhushi, Asstt Conservator of Forest.
Shubham Chhapekar, Biologist, Balasaheb Thackeray Gorewada Zoological Park, and staff members extended their active cooperation during week-long programmes. The Bird Week is celebrated to mark birthday of Maruti Chitampalli, Vanmaharshi, and birth anniversary of Dr Salim Ali, Birdman of India and noted Ornithologist.
