The 2019 Indian Premier League (IPL), which will feature ten teams, is expected to start on April 2 in Chennai.
Fixtures have not been finalised, but the BCCI has internally communicated to key stakeholders that the board is planning to start IPL 2022 on April 2 in Chennai, according to a Cricbuzz report.
Since the 15th edition of the cash-rich league will feature 10 teams and 74 games in total, the BCCI has decided that the season will last more than 60 days. As a result, the championship match could take place during the first weekend of June.
In addition, each side will play 14 league games, with the present system of seven home and away games remaining unchanged.
The defending champions, Chennai Super Kings, will play their first game at Chepauk, but there is no official word on whether their opponents will be the Mumbai Indians, as has been the case in the past.
After the full season of 2020 and a half-season of 2021 were hosted in the UAE, BCCI secretary Jay Shah said that the IPL would return to India in his remarks at CSK’s fourth IPL win celebration event.
“I’m sure you all are looking forward to see CSK play in Chepauk. So, the time is not far away. The IPL’s 15th season will be held in India, and it will be more interesting than ever thanks to the addition of two new teams. We’ll be holding a huge auction soon, so it’ll be interesting to see how the new combinations turn out “At the function, the BCCI secretary stated.
