Sjansari, Member of Motor Accident Claims Tribunal,
Chandrapur, has ordered an insurance company payment of compensation of Rs 1,62,000 with interest to a dog owner ashispet was killed in a road accident.
According to sources in the court, on January 10, 2013, at about 6.05 am, claimant Umesh Bhatkar was walking his his Labrador on side of the road. When they were near Ayappa Mandir road a school bus (MH 40/N 3766) hit the dog.
The animal sustained multiple serious injuriesdue tow hichitdied. Bhatkar had lodged a com- plaint in Durgapur Police Station and cops had booked the bus
driverunder section 279 and 429 of the Indian Penal Code.
Later, in the court, Bhatkar said the dog used toearn Rs 1,500 per month for him.Hence,he sought acompensation of Rs 5 lakh from the insurance company Based on strong evidence and deposition of the witnesses, S J Ansari ordered insurance company to pay an amount of Rs 1,62,000 to Bhatkar as compensation along with interest of 8% per annum from the date of filing of petition i.e. July 10, 2013
till actual realisation, and costs.
Thereafter, Bajaj Allianz General Insurance shall have the right to recover the said sum from Ejaz-Ul-Rahim, the travels bus owner and Sudhakar There, driver. of
the bus.
