The problems of former Home Minister Anil Deshmukh are not over. He is in Arthur Road Jail facing charges of extortion and money laundering.
The Enforcement Directorate has filed a supplementary chartgesheet of about 7000 pages under Prevention of Money Laundering Act, charging Deshmukh as the main accused. Two sons of Anil Deshmukh – Salil and Hrishikesh have also been named in the chargesheet.
Former Mumbai Police Commissioner Parambir Singh had levelled charges of extortion against Anil Deshmukh. Singh, through a letter written to the Chief Minister Uddhav Thackeray had alleged that Deshmukh has asked police officers to collect Rs 100 crore per month from restaurants and bars of Mumbai.
After exhausting all legal remedies Deshmukh himself appeared before the ED for enquiry. After initial enquiry for over 12 hours, Deshmukh was arrested and later sent to magisterial custody by the court.
